Types of Hand Embroidery in India

Hello Readers, This time I am sharing a little information about some famous styles of embroideries made in India. Many styles of embroidery is done in all regions of India. Below are very famous styles.
  1. Chikankari 
  2. Phulkari
  3. Mirror work
  4. Zardozi
  5. Kantha
  6. Kasuti
Chikankari: This style of embroidery in done in  Lucknow, in Uttar Pradesh. Chikan embroidery is believed to have been introduced by Nur Jahan,[10] the wife of Jahangir. Chikan embroidery involves the use of white thread on white muslin (tanzeb), fine cotton (mulmul), or voile, fine almost sheer fabrics which showcases shadow work embroidery the best. Phulkari: Phulkari embroidery technique from the Punjab region (divided between India and Pakistan) literally means flower work, which was at one time used as the word for embroidery, but in time the word “Phulkari” became restricted to embroidered shawls and head scarfs.

Kasuti: It is a traditional form of folk embroidery practiced in the state of Karnataka, India. Kasuti work involves embroidering very intricate patterns like gopura, chariot, palanquin, lamps and conch shells.
